Certificate in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy

The Certificate program is the foundation of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy as a speciality practice. The expected outcome is a change in clinical behaviour as Physical Therapists gain knowledge in evidence-based patient management and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions using direction-specific exercise and OMPT procedures (mobilization/manipulation). The core of Certification is musculoskeletal differential diagnosis using a combination of selective tissue and movement-based examination. Physical Therapists will learn to appreciate and integrate current Clinical Practice Guidelines for patient care. Certified clinicians will be able to communicate effectively with medical providers as well as educate their patients on prognosis and appropriate medical care.

The C-OMPT program curriculum has been accepted by IFOMPT (International Federation of Manual and Musculoskeletal Physical Therapists) with its Member of Organization, a globally recognized organization that sets the highest standards for orthopedic manual physical therapy. This endorsement ensures that the program aligns with international best practices, evidence-based approaches, and advanced clinical reasoning techniques. Peripheral Joints Module

The Peripheral Joints module is a 3-day onsite course which covers the Upper and Lower Extremities. The course is designed to provide Physiotherapists with clinical reasoning skills to diagnose selective tissue dysfunction and peripheral joint pain. The course will develop the clinician’s clinical reasoning process and choose treatments based on evidence-informed practice. Participants will be taught numerous aspects of differential diagnosis of the upper and lower quarter. This includes peripheral/extremity pain caused by a spinal origin and conditions that require referral to a medical specialist. Clinicians will learn safe and effective manual physical therapy techniques including high velocity low amplitude thrust (HVLAT) and non-thrust mobilizations to the peripheral joints. Other manual therapy procedures such as soft tissue techniques, neural tissue mobilization, and exercises will be covered in this comprehensive course.
