Certificate in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy
The Certificate program is the foundation of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy as a speciality practice. The expected outcome is a change in clinical behaviour as Physical Therapists gain knowledge in evidence-based patient management and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions using direction-specific exercise and OMPT procedures (mobilization/manipulation). The core of Certification is musculoskeletal differential diagnosis using a combination of selective tissue and movement-based examination. Physical Therapists will learn to appreciate and integrate current Clinical Practice Guidelines for patient care. Certified clinicians will be able to communicate effectively with medical providers as well as educate their patients on prognosis and appropriate medical care.
The C-OMPT program curriculum has been accepted by IFOMPT (International Federation of Manual and Musculoskeletal Physical Therapists) with its Member of Organization, a globally recognized organization that sets the highest standards for orthopedic manual physical therapy. This endorsement ensures that the program aligns with international best practices, evidence-based approaches, and advanced clinical reasoning techniques. By meeting IFOMPT standards, the C-OMPT certification provides physiotherapists with a globally respected qualification, enhancing their expertise in musculoskeletal and manual therapy.
The Cervical Thoracic Spine & Ribcage (CTR) is 3-day course covering current evidence in the physical therapy assessment and management of the cervical and thoracic spine including the ribcage. The lecture will summarize the developing body of literature regarding cervical and thoracic spine classification of patients. The Instructor will present and discuss relevant safety concerns on the application of thrust manipulation to the cervical spine. The course will discuss evidence-based treatments including multimodal approaches to the treatment of common musculoskeletal conditions affecting the region, and manual physical therapy techniques based on the IFOMPT Cervical Framework Document. The laboratory section will focus on evidence-based assessment and treatment of the cervicothoracic spine and ribcage in the effective delivery of OMPT techniques including but not limited to mobilization, manipulation (HVLAT), and supporting movement and motor control exercises
